End Violence Against Women
Human rights are not a privilege conferred by the government. They are every human’s entitlement by the virtue of their humanity.
Each individual has a right to choose, to decide, in every aspect that relates to their life, that relates to them, no other person’s pressure should be influential in their decision making. Every decision I make in my life, every judgement, whether right or wrong, should be something I have generated and formed independently, not at the least predisposed by the societal burdens and the pressure of my family, friends. This is my life, and I have the sole right to determine, how I wish to live, with whom I wish to live, where and in which conditions, all are my exclusive rights that can’t be violated by any means of society. And this applies to all human beings, necessarily including women. A girl has a right to choose her life, to decide how she wishes to live, with whom and decisions about her body. Women are the real architects of society, they have the power to transform minds, hearts and souls, and generate beautiful and strong individuals.
Women are special, they are unique for they know what the world needs, and spread love, compassion, forgiveness and are the epitome of valour. But all this truth of life, and the sense of pride, in being a girl, goes into vain when I hear cases showcasing the brutality and vehemence of the people towards girls like me , when rapes and female foeticides are the headlines, when my parents don’t permit me to stay outdoors after 8 because it’s not safe. Those injuries might have been healed with the course of time, but the wound created deep within the soul of that girl, shall take years for her to regain the identity she lost and to relive her life in a manner she desires to, without any fear of being oppressed by those unmindful and egocentric individuals again, who are an utter waste to the society.
Although the Constitution declares me as a free individual, although the government provides me with all the rights I am entitled to and albeit, in books, I have as much privilege and individualism, as the men of this world have, but still my mind is not free. The fear is always there of something wrong happening to me, that shall be influential in ruining my reputation and erasing my identity in front of society. You exist in this world today because there was someone like me, who has suffered a great deal of pain to bring you to life. We are girls, but we are not objects, we can’t be objectified, we are not the puppets of your hands, subject to your decisions, to give shape to our lives. We are humans, and we have our human rights, we deserve a society where we can live fearlessly, people whom we can trust without any second thought, a world where people have a changed mindset about girls, not considering them as mere objects of their hands, which can be moulded any time according to their cruel will.
Being a woman, is a matter of pride, something special about a girl, that yet awaits to be presented to this patriarchal and male-dominated society, a woman is the epitome of love and compassion, she is the one, who pats the shoulders of her child, on his victory, and motivates him at times of defeats, she is the one who gives a shoulder to a man during times of misery and she is the one who cries in grief when lonely over her personal pains. A woman gives solace to all during their hard times, who shall be there to console her, however, during her pains, during her troubles, for men are still engaged in wealth making. She is the one who has the power from within, to rebuild herself, to conquer her fears and to rise stronger, to face the world.
We want our girls to be safe. But not by stopping them from staying outdoors at night, but by stopping the spread of misconception that girls are weak. We want our girls to be shielded. But not by teaching them to stay away from strangers, but by teaching those strangers a lesson that girls have a power from within, that at times they might not even imagine. We want our society to respect our girls. But not by forcing our girls to be traditional and conservative, but by forcing our men to think that girls are in every field of life and deserve to be on an equal footing as their male counterparts.
Each time a woman stands up for herself, without knowing it possibly and seemingly without claiming it, she stands up for all women.
